Veronica Pereira, MS, LCMHC, NCC, CGCS

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I  was born in Uruguay and moved to the United States after completing high school, so Spanish is my first language.

I decided to become a counselor at a very young age after the death of a loved one. I struggled communicating my emotions and understanding my grief, and I knew that I was not the only one struggling with this. I never intended to become a therapist who specializes in grief, but life’s twists and turns ended up showing me that becoming a grief counselor was what I intended to do all along.

I received a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from The Ohio State University in 2014. I then completed an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2017.

As a part of my Masters program, I was selected to intern at a bereavement center in Texas where I have gained most of my experience in treating grief. There, I learned how powerful and life transforming it is to be able to understand, communicate, and express grief not only through words, but also through play and art. This experience was what inspired me to specialize in providing support to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. For this reason, I have received extensive training in grief counseling and became a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist.

I have worked as an outpatient therapist where I have been able to gain knowledge and experience in treating a wide range of mental health disorders. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. As a therapist, I provide a safe environment for individuals who are dealing with grief, life transitions, anxiety, and depression by providing support and helping them to develop coping skills to manage their symptoms.

Outside of work, I enjoy being in touch with nature. This is what keeps me grounded and is what facilitates reflection and self-awareness. This is my happy place. I also enjoy being creative and using art as a way of channeling my emotions and inner self.
